Officer Pat Newton Cleared in Shooting of Raymond Reinhart, July 13, 1926

Clear Officer Who Fired Shot That Killed Reinhart. . . Wilmington Policeman Exonerated of Blame in Connection with Double Tragedy

Wilmington, July 13—Pat Newton, Wrightsville Beach patrolman who shot and mortally wounded A. Raymond Reinhart at the Reinhart cottage yesterday afternoon when after Reinhart had shot to death his daughter-in-law, Mrs. A.R. Reinhart Jr, and was attempting to shoot his own wife, was completely exonerated by a coroner’s jury here today of all blame in connection with the shooting.

The jury found that Reinhart came to his death as the result of pistol shot wounds by a gun I the hands of Officer Newton, who was in the performance of his duty and while making an effort to save the life of Mrs. Reinhart Sr. The jury also found that Mrs. Reinhart Jr. came to her death as the result of bullet wounds from a pistol in the hands of her father-in-law, A.R. Reinhart Sr.

Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Reinhart Jr. were held here this afternoon in the home of her parents. The remains of Mr. Reinhart will leave here early tomorrow accompanied by his wife and possibly his son, for Charlotte where interment will be made.
