The new state-wide stock law lately passed by the
legislature of South Carolina is the cause of a serious and puzzling dilemma to
the citizens of Columbus and other North Carolina counties bordering on the
Palmetto State which do not have no-fence laws. Notification has been given to
the farmers of Columbus county that if they wish to continue to let their stock
have free range, they must build a fence between the two States, from one end
of their county to the other, a distance of 50 miles.
