W.G. Padrick Was Fifth Member of Arson Ring, Says Insurance Commissioner Wade, Feb. 18, 1922

Thinks Fifth Arrest Breaks Up “Arson Ring”

By Brock Barkley

Raleigh, Feb. 17—With the arrest at Henderson today of W.G. Padrick, automobile supply house owner, Insurance Commissioner Wade believes an alleged “arson ring” has been broken up. Padrick is the fifth person to be arrested as the result of the destruction by fire of buildings and automobiles at Henderson, the fires allegedly being of incendiary origin. Padrick, the commissioner said, will e charged with operating the “car burning” game from Henderson to Sanford, between 25 and 50 automobiles having been destroyed.

Last night R.T. Stoke, a Raleigh man, was arrested under a warrant making charges similar to those against Padrick. Three other arrests have been previously made at Henderson as the result of the insurance department’s investigation into reports of the destruction by fire of buildings and automobiles to obtain insurance money.
