Again Edgar Williams gets into the Elizabeth City courts and as easily gets out. This time he turns state’s evidence on his companions and they are fined. Williams was in court last Saturday to testify against guests in his home, who were nabbed by the police last Friday night and charged with participating in a game of poker. The guests were fined $15 apiece and costs, on the strength of Williams’ testimony, but Williams, as usual, got clear. Somebody tipped the police off that games were a nightly occurrence in a room back of Williams’ home, which is known as the Central Care on West Main Street. The police made a raid after waiting outside and hearing the game get in progress. Williams’ companions fined in court here Saturday morning were Joe Self, G. Phelps, Sidney Benton, L. Strong and L. Volsak.
