Crowder Mountain Mine Resumes Operation, March 24, 1923

Crowder Mountain Mine Opened

Kings Mountain Herald

Work has been resumed on the Crowder Mountain baritese (barite) mine. This property is located about 1 ½ miles from Linwood College and has not been worked in seven or eight years. Two new shafts are to be sunk probably 200 feet and 30 or 40 persons employed.

Kings Mountain is the nearest shipping point for the product of this mine, and we hope that it will come this way. A hint to Brother Peeler to go after it.

From the front page of The Cleveland Star, Shelby, N.C., March 24, 1923. If you don’t know what barite is, check out geology.com/minerals/barite.shtml.
