Heard in Durham Recorder's Court Friday, April 6, 1923

Short Session of Court Friday. . . Cases Tried by the Recorder Were of a Minor Nature and of Little Interest

Hill Rogers and Francis Crutchfield were the greatest sufferers at the hands of the recorder in Friday’s session of court. Each of them was fined $20 and the costs for interfering with an officer in the performance of his duty.

None of the cases tried during the session were of any importance, they being for the most part charges of drunkenness, fighting and automobile law violations.

Oscar Elam and Cleother Simms were fined $5 and the costs each for drunkenness with half of their fines being remitted. Hattie Marvels received like punishment without the rebate.

Five dollars and the costs was assessed Dr. W.D. Russell for speeding an automobile.

Wade Justice was taxed with the costs for violating the automobile laws and $10 and the costs for speeding a motorcycle.

Mable Amie was fined $5 and the costs for assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

Frank Tatum, Son Lyon and Cuther Haynes were called to trial on a charge of gambling. Lyon failed to appear as he was not arrested but the other two defendants were fined $5 each and taxed with the costs. Five dollars and the costs each was assessed Turner Smith and Leon Henderson also charged with gambling.
