Fayetteville, July 4—After counsel had pleaded for an hour for the setting aside of the verdict which a superior court jury had returned here yesterday against Walter Jackson and Thomas Skipper, convicting them of flogging Rudolph Willard, Judge Henry Grady sentenced Jackson to an indeterminate confinement in state prison for a period of five to eight years at hard labor, and gave Skipper 18 months in the county roads.
In pronouncing sentence Judge Grady Declared that he weas letting Skipper off lighter because he was apparently the tool of Jackson.
