Klan Parade, Public Meeting, BBQ Success in Mooresville, Aug. 4, 1925

Klansmen Have a Big Time in Hustling Town of Mooresville. . . Nearly 500 in the Parade—Big Barbecue Supper—Tribute W.J. Bryan

Last Tuesday night the local Klan at Mooresville staged a big public meeting. The Carolina Jeffersonian stated last week that it would be one of the biggest meetings to be held in that particular section, and the prediction came true.

There were around 500 Klansmen and many hundreds of visitors to see the parade. The 500 Klansmen marched down the main street while the many visitors watched with a great deal of interest.

After the parade there was a public speaking and then a barbecue was served to the Klansman and invited guests. W.C. White of Raleigh was master of ceremonies and in his characteristic manner presides in an admirable way. Rev. C.L. McCain, pastor of the Methodist church, offered the devotional service, after which the procession halted in silent tribute to Hon. William Jennings Bryan, a great Klansman who died at Dayton, Tenn., on the Sunday afternoon previous.

Mayor McNeeley turned the town over to the Klansmen, following which Shelly Frontis presented Hon. O.K. Bennett, an attorney of Asheville, and he delivered the address of the evening, enlightening the vast audience on the principles of the order and its purpose.

Following Mr. Bennett, Dr. McGuire, an itinerant Baptist minister, of Concord, made an address.

The program was a good one. Everything was pleasant and the many present expressed themselves as having greatly enjoyed the occasion, the visitors as well as the Klansmen.

Many Klansmen were presented from Fayetteville, Durham, Raleigh, Elkin, Concord, Asheville, and other points.
