Mrs. Teeter Dies When Train Hits Car, Aug. 7, 1926

One Woman Killed and Four Others Seriously Hurt. . . Mrs. H. G. Teeter of Morganton Killed Almost Instantly—Her Daughter Was Driving Car. . . Auto Was Hit by Southern Train. . . Accident Occurred Near Statesville—The Car Stopped on the Track—Injured Taken to Salisbury

Statesville, Aug. 7 (AP)--One woman was killed almost instantly and four other women occupants of an automobile where seriously injured near her today when struck by westbound Southern Railway freight train.

Mrs. H. G. Teeter of Morganton was fatally injured. Her daughter, Miss Pearl Teeter, who was driving the car, Miss Dorothy Hinnant and Miss Louise Bannang, both of Raleigh, and Miss Mary Neal Ward of Gibsonville, were the injured.

The accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. two miles west of here. The automobile in which the women were riding stopped on the crossing tracks and the engineer seemed unable to stop.

The party was en route to Salisbury.

The hurt are in a local hospital, but the extent of their injuries has not been learned.
