From The Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., Dec. 14, 1918

First to Fall from Elm City

Private James W. Cox Jr., the son of our esteemed countryman Mr. J.W. Cox of Elm City, died from influenza in France November 24th, according to a message which was received by his parents yesterday. This young man was 21 years of age and volunteered at the beginning of the war. He was a member of the Military Police.

His death was received with deep sorrow by the people of Elm City who esteemed him very highly. He gave every indication of a useful and brilliant career and it is indeed sad to lose from our midst one so young and full of promise.

Corp. Tefel Severely Wounded

Corporal E.S. Tefel was severely wounded October 5th somewhere in France. This message was received from the war department yesterday by his sister, Mrs. Sterritt Faarmer. We sincerely trust the brave young soldier will be restored to his family and friends.
