From The Roanoke News, Thursday, Dec. 12, 1918

Influenza at the State Farm

Influenza is now raging at the State Prison farm near Tillery, and Superintendent J.R. Collie is making effort to supplement the hospital equipment of the farms by the addition of tents to get the convalescents into the open air and sunshine.

Thursday, according to Superintendent Collie, 30 cases developed at the farm. Friday there were 45 and Monday the number had jumped to 75. Dr. J.H. Norman, the prison camp physician, is giving the men every attention. The hospitals there accommodate only 30 men each.
