Flu Closes Albemarle Schools Again, Dec. 5, 1918

From The Rockingham Post-Dispatch, Dec. 5, 1918

Schools Close Till New Year

Albemarle—All public schools in Albemarle have been closed until after Christmas, due to the still somewhat prevalent epidemic of Spanish influenza in town.

The schools had been closed for several weeks with teachers waiting for the board of health to raise the quarantine. Monday the schools all opened up, only to be almost immediately closed again and now the school board thinks it best, while conditions are at present not alarming, to keep the children out until after the Christmas holidays.

A rather remarkable fact in this connection is that, so far, not a single case of the disease has developed among the students of the Albemarle Normal and Industrial Institute.
