Cecil Bost Running into Other North Carolinians in France, 1918

“Tar Heels Hunt Each Other in French Camps,” from the Hickory Daily Record, Sept. 25, 1918

Writing under date of August 20, Mr. Cecil T. Bost, Evac. Amb. No. 6, A.E.F., France, A.P.O. 740 informs his mother, Mrs. C.C. Bost, that he is well and happy and having plenty to do. One of his great joys is running across Tar Heels, of whom there are quite a number in France, and they seem to stick together very closely. He said the Hickory boys were not far from him, but he has not seen them yet.
A lieutenant from Chapel Hill, hearing that another Tar Heel was near, descended on Mr. Bost and they soon fund that they had many things of interest in common. Mr. Bost told how he had carried a wounded soldier from Asheville to the base hospital and of his great pleasure at being able to serve. The Hickory boy has received only one letter from home and that reached him on his birthday. Mr. Bost will send a German helmet home if he can get it through.
