Local Intelligence
Farewell booze. The coming generations will not even know
what it is.
Just as we go to press news reached us that Littleton
College was totally destroyed by fire on last Tuesday night. We learn that the
fire originated in the kitchen. All the students escaped without injury. Some
of the girls lost all their clothing, as the building, which was a very large
one, burned rapidly. A fuller account of the fire will be published in our next
issue.
It is with great sorrow we announce the sad death of Mrs.
M.A. Inge which occurred while on a visit to her old home in Emporia on last
Monday morning, in the 30th year of her age. Mrs. Inge was here, on
a visit, a short while ago, and left here apparently in perfect health. She was
taken with influenza which developed quickly into pneumonia, with the above
result. She was married about two years ago. We extend sympathy to the bereaved
ones.
We regret to announce the death of Mr. W.B. Boseman, which
occurred at his home a few miles from town on last Thursday night of pneumonia
in the 69th year of his age. The funeral took place on Friday
evening and the interment was at the family burying ground. Mr. Boseman was one
of our most substantial farmers and a good, honest, reliable man. He was a
member of the M.E. church. Our sympathy goes out to the sorrowing ones.
Died at the home of its parents in this place on last Monday
night, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Nash. The remains were taken to
Portsmouth, Va., for interment.
