Farmers, Women's Institutes to be Held Jan. 17, 18, 1919

From the Wilson Times, Jan. 14, 1919

Farmers’ and Women’s Institutes

Don’t forget the farmer’s and women’s institutes to be held in Wilson county at New Hope Friday, January 17th, next week, and at Rock Ridge Saturday, January 18th. These institutes will open at 1 o’clock sharp.

Vital interests and subjects affecting the farmer will be discussed and everybody is invited to attend. The matters up for discussion will be soil fertility, food and feed crops, live stock, pastures, marketing, matters in which every farmer is interested will be discussed by representatives of the State Department of Agriculture, the Experiment Station, Extension Service, and others.

The United States government in co-operation with the State of North Carolina is spending a great deal of money to help the farmers of the State and unless the people turn out and avail themselves of the opportunity to learn, this money will be wasted.

At the head of the farm demonstration work of Wilson county stands Mr. B.T. Ferguson, who is doing everything possible to make the efforts of the government effective. By his side stands Mrs. J.C. Boyette who has won the hearts of the ladies of the county by her splendid efforts in their behalf. The canning clubs and the general home demonstration work are monuments to her ability, energy and enthusiasm.

In the home demonstration department the ladies will be taught how to make an attractive home and how to properly feed and dress the children, the all the year round garden, and good health and economical living. Also, how we may save food so as to help feed a hungry world, and other things pertaining to good housekeeping.
