From The Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., Sept. 16, 1919

A Wave 10 Feet High Sweeps Over Corpus Christi Drowning People and Doing Millions of Dollars Worth of Damage. . . Coast of Texas Strewn With Bodies. . . Relief Trains and Workers Busy

Sinton, Texas, Sept. 16—Sinton is acting as the relief headquarters for the surrounding country which was storm swept in the hurricane and tidal wave which struck the cost here Sunday night. Several bodies have been found at West Point and 22 at White Point, and four or five below Odem, and several at Portland. No one was killed at Sinton but the property damage was high.
The bodies are being held in the schools and churches.

Troops are patrolling the streets of Corpus Christi and relief trains a headed that way, as Corpus Christi begins to emerge from the storm which struck Sunday and destroyed a million dollars worth of property. It is impossible to tell the extent of the damage or the number of fatalities, but the death list is placed at between 15 and 25, but many think that is far too conservative. Some say that it will exceed 200 and it is reported that 120 bodies were found on a reef near the city. More than 3,000 people are homeless…. The storm sent a wave of water 10 feet high over the city’s business and residential district.
