By the Associated Press

Albemarle, Sept. 15—As the result of strikes at cotton mills here attempting to prevent non-union men from going to work this morning, a serious clash took place at Wiscassett Mills. Sheriff Blalock was hot in the leg and a striker named Porter was injured by being struck by bullets.

The Stanly county jail was almost filled at 11 o’clock, scores of arrests followed the trouble at the mill.

It is reported that the strikers have threatened to storm the prison and release the men arrested and great excitement prevails throughout the town.

Although Governor Bickett at the request of local authorities ordered three companies of state guards to proceed to Albemarle at once, it is feared trouble will start before the troops arrive.
