“Cy” is the adopted name of the Herald’s newly acquired “devil.” He is better and more favorably known to the students of the high school as Cyrus Basemore. Cy assumed his new duties last week, working afternoons after school and on Saturdays. He is fast developing the sinews of his lower extremities, as he “kicks” the job presses, in is first lessons in press feeding. Later, gas or electric power will be substituted for the leg power.
From the News-Herald, Ahoskie, N.C., Feb. 4, 1921. (A printer’s devil was an apprentice in the printing business.)
