Benson’s New Park Will Open Saturday

Benson, Aug. 17—The chief address at the opening of Willow Brook Park Saturday night will be made by Miss Elizabeth Kelly of Raleigh. Miss Kelly is one of the leading women workers of the State and is in charge of all the State schools for illiterates. For five years she was supervisor of the schools of Johnston County. Both Benson and Johnston County are preparing to welcome her with a crowd of 2,000 people. Mayor Canaday will preside at the opening ceremony and the city commissioners will attend in a body. Zes tnad sparkle will be added to the occasion by the presence of the Benson American Legion military band, 50 strong, under the direction of Lieut. Alfred J. Schmidt, U.S.R. it will be the first time the band has played in public. Willow Brook Park was built by the ladies of the Entre Nous Club.
