Sidney Kincaid, Burke County Commissioner, Sentenced to 18 Years for Cutting His Wife's Throat July 18, 1921

Kincaid Given 18 Years. . . Judge Bryson Pronounces Sentence on Burke County Wife Murderer

Morganton, Aug. 20—Sidney A. Kincaid, Burke County commissioner, found guilty last night of second degree murder for the slaying of his wife, was this morning sentenced by Judge Bryson to serve 18 years in the state prison.

Notice of appeal to supreme court was promptly filed by defense lawyers. Judge Bryson will designate the amount of bond this afternoon.

The verdict was reached at 11 o’clock last night after the jury had deliberated about four hours.

Kincaid, who is prominent, was charged with having cut his wife’s throat the night of July 18. He pleaded that he was intoxicated and did not know what he was doing.
