Concord, August 20—Troops this morning were removed from guard duty about the six mills which are running here and in Kannapolis. Orders taking the soldiers from guard duty were issued by Adjutant General Metts, and followed the assurance given county and city officials by 600 mill operatives last night that they would obey the laws and use their influence in maintaining the law and order during the strike situation here.
No intimation has been given out as to when the troops will leave concord and Kannapolis, but their removal from duty is expected shortly. Three additional mills are expected to open here Monday morning. Whether troops will be assigned to guard duty there on the opening morning is unknown.
