San Francisco, Feb. 1--$16 a week is the minimum wage established by law for women workers of California. Some employers of the state are now carrying on a strenuous campaign to reduce the minimum, despite the fact that public hearings under the auspices of the Industrial Welfare commission show that the present wage is hardly sufficient to maintain a standard of proper living. All the labor organizations of the state oppose any reduction of the present minimum standard of women’s wages.
From the Union Herald, Raleigh, N.C., Feb. 2, 1922. $16 is worth $263.36 in 2022 when adjusted for inflation, or $13,694.72 a year.
