Walter L. Small
Those who may have thought that Walter L. Small was a bit sluggish and awkward and too easy-going to make a strenuous campaign had another think coming to them when the returns from Saturday’s Primary came in from every county in the district. This Elizabeth City man pulled the highest vote in a four-sided contest for the office of Solicitor, in which he was in many ways badly handicapped. That he should have had such a remarkable lead is a testimonial of high order. It means that he must have put in a vast amount of hard work in every county in the district and it means that he won the confidence and esteem of an army of people who had never hear of his previous to the announcement of his candidacy for the office of Solicitor of the First Judicial District just a few short weeks ago. His home folks are proud of the run he has just made and will back him heartily in the second contest which must follow since no candidate received sufficient votes to win the nomination.
