Needham Clay Freeman, an honored and much-loved resident of Oak Grove township, died Friday evening at his home near Mineral Springs. Mr. Freeman was the son of the late Evel and Betsy Freeman and was born in Durham county on January 7, 1847. He fought in the civil war and regularly each year during his life donned his grey uniform to attend the confederate reunion.
On February 26, 1880, Mr. Freeman was married to Miss Lucy Dora Hetcher. The surviving relatives are his wife, a daughter: Mrs. T.H. Holloway of this county; one brother: Spencer Freeman of Silvam, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Freeman was a man of sterling character, and will be missed by hosts of friends all over the county and state.
The funeral will be conducted from the home on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock and the interment will be in the family burying grounds near the home. The pall and floral bearers have not been selected. Rev. C.D. Hall, of the Primitive Baptist Church, will officiate.
From page 2 of the Sunday Morning Herald, Durham, N.C., Oct. 21, 1923. The original article said he was born in 1747 but that was obviously a typo so I changed it to 1847.
