Wade Moore, 39, Killed in Unusual Car Accident, Oct. 29, 1923

Rockingham, Oct. 25—Wade C. Moore of Biscoe, aged 39, met with an unusual death five miles east of Rockingham late Sunday afternoon. He and Thomas Nunnery of Carthage were riding in a stripped-down Ford, with Nunnery driving and Moore holding to Nunnery with the left hand and trying to keep a dog between his knees with his right. At the foot of the hill opposite the old “wire grass” mill on the Hamlet-Ledbetter road, the dog tried to jump out, or the car gave a lurch. At any rate, Moore pitched headlong from the improvised seat with such force that his neck was broken and his skull fractured.
