Paper Thinks KKK Should Take Care of Men Who Believe "Shooting Up" Woman is Part of Courtship, Oct. 29, 1923

The Durham young woman who refused the attentions of a persistent admirer and was “shot up” in consequence, apparently retained her business sense, notwithstanding the trying experience. Instead of blowing out his own worthless brains the coward ran away, and his victim proceeded to attach his automobile and $400 bank account. It is to be hoped that he will be stripped of his property but that he may find board and lodging in the State prison for a season. If the Ku Klux would render a public service that would bring their organization a measure of gratitude, if not of respect, they would give special attention to the cowardly retches who make targets of women who exercise their inalienable right to choose their company.
