Charlotte, March 22—Two years ago there was but one farmer in all of Mecklenburg county that paid an income tax to the State, but this year there were almost a dozen, said A. Morris McDonald, deputy State income tax commissioner. Last year there were a few farmers who paid state income tax and this year they were augmented again. The lone farmer income tax payer of two years ago, it was said, created a sensation. The cases in question refer to actual farmers and not to absentee landlords.
