Lightning Strike Destroys Hartsfield's Radio, But That Radio Saved the House, June 8, 1924

Lightning Strikes Radio Set in Home of J.H. Hartsfield

The bright flash and the loud crash of thunder which awoke many New Bernians from their peaceful slumber about 4 o’clock yesterday morning, struck the radio set in the home of J.H. Hartsfield, Craven county coroner.

The set was torn to pieces, and according to reports reaching The New Bernian office, Hartsfield’s house would probably have been badly damaged had it not been for the radio set, which carried the lightning into the ground through the ground wire. No one was hurt.
