Joe Swindell, despite persistent rumors of his death, was reported as apparently in no immediate danger at the Elizabeth City Hospital Thursday afternoon just prior to an operation to remove the bullet lodged against the spinal column. His condition was described as grave, but the wound is not necessarily fatal and he has a chance to recover, it is believed.
