Washington, Dec. 6—Chief Justice Taft has let it be known that he has endorsed Col. Isaac Meekins for the North Carolina judgeship. He was asked by Roger A. Derby of Jackson Springs, who is a kinsman of the Roosevelts and Miss Sophie Busbee of Raleigh to support H.F. Seawell. In letters of response to these requests, he made known his position, which was stated before in this correspondence. Mr. Meekins had planted his pipe pretty well for this job long before any appointment had to be made. He had the promise of former Attorney General Daughterty for his support.
From the front page of the Concord Times, Dec. 8, 1924. William Howard Taft was president from March 4, 1909, to March 4, 1913. He was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from July 11, 1921, until his death February 3, 1930.
