Mrs. S.M. Hughes Won $10 Gold Piece at Savings Bank, Dec. 24, 1924

Savings Bank Gives Gold to Club Members

A group of happy club members left the Savings Bank & Trust Company Wednesday morning when five lucky members were given from $2.50 to $10 in gold.

Mrs. S.M. Hughes, 606 Pennsylvania Avenue, won the first prize of $10. Patience Alexander, 415 Harney street, and R.M. Sawyer, 403 Second street, won second and third prizes respectively, each getting $5 in gold. The fourth and fifth prize winners were Mary Cherry, colored, and Mrs. W.M. Gary of Richmond, Va.

Vice President and Cashier H.G. Kramer expressed himself as being pleased with the large number who had joined the 1925 Christmas Savings Club, and he believes that next year’s membership will surpass that of this year by considerable margin.

The Savings Bank & Trust Company boasts of the “original” Christmas Savings Club in Elizabeth City.

The Savings Bank has been an attractive corner during the holiday season. An electric sign has flashed each night on the sidewalk—a hint to the passer-by to stop and consider the necessity of saving his money.
