Elmer Sanders, Seriously Cut in Austin's Gin, Not Expected to Live, Dec. 23, 1924

Negro Seriously Cut in Austin’s Gin Here

Elmer Sanders, a young colored man about 20 years of age, was seriously cut in Austin’s cotton gin here yesterday. While working he became caught in some of the machinery and was powerless to release himself. His lower left arm was so badly mangled that it was necessary to amputate it, and his whole body was mutilated almost beyond recognition. He was immediately rushed to the Smithfield Memorial Hospital for medical attention. As we go to press, he is not expected to recover.
