State to Give County Help with Public Welfare, Dec. 26, 1924

Cherokee’s Welfare

Cherokee County should account herself fortunate indeed that she has been singled out by the State Board of Charities and Public Welfare for special demonstrations in public welfare work. Three other counties of the State share this distinction with Cherokee.

There are doubtless many conditions in the county that a full-time, trained worker will be able to remedy. Such a matter as the enforcement of the public school law and the state child labor law would fully justify the employment of a full time worker. The welfare worker would also be on the alert for any needy cases, and will undoubtedly be able to correct many unsanitary conditions that now exist and which may be mapping the future manpower of the county.

No doubt the agent the State is to put here will demonstrate not only to Cherokee but also to a number of adjoining counties the value of such work and many of the counties will doubtless initiate the work on their own accord as a result of this demonstration.
