Basil M. Watkins, popular young local attorney, will serve as campaign manager of the third Community Chest Campaign, which will be conducted throughout the city on April 21, 22 and 23, it was announced yesterday by the committee appointed to select a campaign manager. The committee that selected Mr. Watkins to head the campaign was composed of Rev. S.S. Bost, B.W. Rogers, Marion Fowler and Mrs. L.A. Tomlinson.
With the announcement that Mr. Watkins will head the campaign, and the announcement of final plans for the campaign, everything now is in readiness for the drive, which it is believed, will reach the majority of the citizens and all of its civic organizations of the city.
Dr. R.L. Felts conducted the campaign last year. At that time $52,000 was raised for the several organizations represented in the Community Chest Federation. The selection of Mr. Watkins as campaign manager will meet with the approval of all persons interested in the Community Chest Federation, and with him as leader, the campaign is expected to be a tremendous success.
The campaign will be officially opened on the night of April 20, when all the workers of the campaign will attend a banquet-meeting at the Y.M.C.A. at which time, final plans will again e discussed, and the campaign started on its way to success. Chairman Watkins is expected to name his assistant within the next few days. The executive committee and various teams will also be chosen during the coming week, it was stated yesterday. . . . .
