Winston-Salem, April 20—A cloudburst followed by hail falling to a depth of 10 inches Saturday afternoon beat all the leaves off trees, buried vegetation by its impact, and undermined the ground from the railroad tracks of the Southern between Roaring River and Wilkesboro, according to C.T. Wilkinson, baggage manager, on returning from his run.
The storm occurring about one mile beyond Roaring River was terrific. The section of the county visited by hail was only a narrow strip a mile wide along the Yadkin River. The hail fell to a depth of 10 inches by actual measurement.
Section hands were busy at work repairing damage to the tracks. All the crops within the narrow strip were totally destroyed.
