News Briefs from Union Church, April 24, 1925

Union Church

Rev. Dugald McD. Monroe will preach at Union Sunday morning, April 26th, at 11:00. A cordial invitation is extended to all.

Rev. and Mrs. C.H. Rowan and children, Robert and Frances, of Rowland, were the guests last week of Mr. R.D. Rowan and family.

Miss Ariel Shaw of Farm Life spent the week-end at her home. She had as her guests Misses Julia Gilliam and Margaret Cameron.

Circle No. 2 of the Union Auxiliary met Saturday with Mrs. C.W. Reynolds. After an interesting program the members went in a body and called on Mr. A.M. Shaw, who has ben an invalid for several years.

Mr. W.G. Suggs of Carthage met with the Christian Endeavor society Sunday night. Mr. Suggs is an interesting speaker and held the attention of every one, urging them to fight for the welfare of their society in spite of drawbacks.

Mrs. C.S. Reynolds and children, Pearl and Ray, called on Miss Effie Bailey a day of last week.

Mr. S.E. Peele and family visited at the home of Mr. Grady Stutts Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Fields and children, Pearl, Earl and Clinon (Clinton?), of Carthage, visited at Mr. M.M. Bailey’s Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Hugh Garner and Miss Francis Bowles attended C.E. Sunday night.

Mr. Bert Bailey of Jonesboro spent the week-end at home.

Sunday night, April 26th, is the time for election of new officers in the Christian Endeavor society. We would like to urge the members and older people as well to be thinking about this and help elect those who are best fitted for this place.

Mrs. Carlton McLeod and children, who have been visiting relatives here, returned to their home in Asheboro Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gillis and children of Carthage visited at Mr. Ralph McDonald’s Sunday afternoon.

Miss Lessie Bailey spent Monday night with Miss Vivian Mathews of Vass.

Grandmother McLean, who has been visiting in Laurinburg, returned to her home last week. She was accompanied home by Miss Lou and Mr. S.P. Smith.

We are sorry to learn that at the present writing Mrs. R.B. Comer is on the sick list.

Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Reynolds and children visited Mrs. A.R. Garner of Vass, Route 1, Sunday. Mrs. A.R. Reynolds is ill there.

Mrs. A.M. Shaw spent Tuesday with Mrs. C.W. Reynolds.

The farmers thru this section are beginning to set tobacco and plant cotton.
