Pembroke News. . . Announcement Party and Miscellaneous Shower in Honor of Miss Flora Hasty, Who Was Married Yesterday to Mr. Worth Culbreth—Tuesday Book Club Elects Officers

Pembroke, Apr. 18—The children of Mrs. Folger’s and Miss McDaniel’s grades enjoyed an Easter egg hunt Friday afternoon, April 10th.

Mr. and Mrs. Guion Lee and Miss Elsie Lee of Goldsboro arrived Easter Sunday and were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.N. Folger. Mr. Lee and Miss Elsie returned to Goldsboro Monday morning while Mrs. Lee remained over with her sister, Mrs. Folger, until Thursday, when she went to Lumberton for a visit to her sister, Miss Ina Higley.

Mrs. A.M. Breece was at home to a large number of friends on Friday, April 10th.There was much merriment when the cat was let out of the bag and the announcement of the approaching marriage of Miss Flora Hastey and Mr. Worth Culbreth was divulged. The marriage is to take place on April 19th. Then an interesting contest entitled “Lover’s Pie” was engaged in. A handsome prize was awarded the guest of honor, Miss Hastey, after which block cream and wafers were served.

An interesting meeting of the Tuesday Afternoon Book club was held at the home of Mrs. John Byrne on April 14th. The following officers were elected: Mrs. Russel Livermore, president; Mrs. Henderson, vice-president; Miss Sadie Biddell, secretary and treasurer.

On Thursday, April 16th, Mrs. N. Howard Biddell entertained a large number of friends, the occasion being a miscellaneous shower in honor of Miss Flora Hasty, bride-elect. When the guests had all assembled, they were handed paper and pencil and asked to write a wish in rhyme for the bride-to-be. Amid much merriment, the wishes were read by Miss Hasty. It being difficult to decide who wrote the best rhyme, the prize was awarded the honoree. Then the expressman came bearing a big box which was literally filled with packages and smaller boxes containing many valuable and useful gifts. After this, a delicious salad and ice course was served.

Mrs. C.O. Biddell and son, Mr. Allan, and daughter, Miss Sadie, spent Easter at Peachland with Mrs. Biddell’s mother. Mrs. Biddell and son returned Sunday while Miss Sadie went on to Charlotte to spend a week with friends.

Messrs. Bracey and Folger attended the funeral of C.G. Pate Jr. of Purvis at Wadesboro Saturday, April 11th. Mr. and Mrs. N.C. Stubbs and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Gaitley of Rocky Mount, also attended the funeral.
