Joseph and Robert Strickland, brothers of Ed Strickland, Indian, who is undergoing treatment at Baker sanatorium for gun-shot wounds he received when fired upon by officers a few nights ago, are being held in jail here in connection with the attempt to rob R.D. Caldwell & Son’s store here last Monday night.
Robert Strikland was on the building with Ed when the firing by Mr. Robert Caldwell and Officer Vance McGill resulted in the capture of Ed according to his own confession. Both Indians have admitted they were with Ed at the time, Joseph saying he was on the ground and after the shooting hid in a shingle pile back of the building. Clothing identified by Officer McGill as that worn by Joseph on the night of the attempted robbery was found by officers in the loft of the house in which Joseph lives with his father, Ollen Strickland, near Clyburn church.
Les Allen, who was also arrested the day after the shooting, has been released under $1,000 bond.
Ed Strickland’s condition was reported today as only slightly improved. It had been rumored that amputation of his leg had become necessary, but no such operation has yet been performed.
