Gastonia Wires Washington, D.C., for Help With Flu, Oct. 19, 1918

“No Appreciable Change in Gastonia Situation,” from the Hickory Daily Record, Oct. 19, 1918

Gastonia, Oct. 19—there is no appreciable change in the influenza situation here. While there are a good many new cases, many of those who have been ill are up again.

Because of the fact that several of the physicians are ill and many of the nurses there are already overtaxed.

In view of the situation, J.H. Separk, county chairman of the Red Cross and City Health Officer J.S. Wray today wired the United States public health service at Washington a request for several physicians and nurses to be sent here until the situation is improved.
