SAM BARBEE, who at one time lived here, died in Winston
Friday of Spanish influenza. Mr. Barbee was a good singer and will be
remembered by man of the inhabitants here.
CARL B. WELCH, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Welch,
died Friday of the flu in Mechanicsville. Rev. C.A. Cecil conducted the funeral
services Sunday morning.
SALLY ALSTON HOOKER of Cary. Mr. J.A. Eshelman attended the
funeral of her grandmother, Mrs. Sally Alston Hooker, on Friday.
GEO. W. STEWART died at State hospital Monday of flu. The remains
were brought here and interred Wednesday. Deceased was 46 years old.
FRANK H. WEDDELL died Monday of the flu, age 31 years. Wife
and child survive. The remains were interred at Danville.
W.W. DICKERSON died at Portsmouth last week of flu. He at
one time worked at this office.
J.V. ORANGE died Saturday night at Richmond of flu and was
buried at Farmville Monday. Deceased was not married and up to a short time ago
was engaged in the printing business under the name of Orange Bros.
ED BRYANT on Park Street died Saturday of Spanish influenza.
He was 55 years old. Interment occurred Monday at Fairfield. He is the third
vistim in one family the past week, his wife and daughter preceeding him.
CORPORAL PINKNEY H. BURTON died in France Oct. 4th
of pneumonia. He was the brother of Mrs. C.M. Brown of this city. Deceased was
22 years and had been overseas since July 1st.
ROSS LOWE died last week at Camp Hancock, Augusta, Ga., of
indigestion. He resided near Asheboro and the funeral services were held
Monday.
OTTIS OSBORNE died Saturday of the flu at Camp Hancock, Ga.
His remains arrived here Monday night for funeral and he was buried Tuesday.
MARY BONDURANT, sister of Will A. Davis, died here Wednesday
of flu.
JOHN McDONALD, 15 years old, died here Saturday of flu.
WILLIAM McDONALD, 9 years old, succumbed to flu Tuesday.
ANNIE McDONALD—Mrs. McDonald, mother of John and William,
passed away Sunday of flu.
ETTA LONG passed away Monday from the influenza.
WM. M. LEACH died the 19th of tuberculosis at
Trinity. He was a well-known merchant of that town.
