In Recognition of Major W.R. Robertson's Effective Work With Machine Gun Battalion, 1918

Charlotte-Brevard Man Honored

Maj. Wm. R. Robertson, who trained and carried into action the 115th Machine Gun Battalion of the 30th Division, “Old Hickory,” has been recently assigned to staff duty in the first section of the general staff of the First Army. This is the army commanded by Major General Hunter Liggett, which is now leading the allied armies in the most important sector in France.

On October 10, the 1st Army headquarters requested by telegram that Maj. Robertson be transferred immediately. ‘Work of vital importance and this officer is peculiarly competent for this work,’ the message read.

This is a decided compliment to Maj. Robertson’s military and executive ability and followed very excellent reports made by special inspectors who passed through his camp recently.
