News From Route 4, City

By Mary A. Clodfelter

A very sad accident occurred near here when a Ford car, in which three men, J.W. Brown, his son, and Arch Stevens, all of Stokes County, were struck by a shifting train at the Southern Railway crossing at East Fourteenth Crossing. Mr. Brown, aged 67, his son aged 25, and Stevens, aged 40, were all killed.

Those who witnessed the accident say that the bodies were so torn they had be to taken up in baskets.
Mr. Brown was returning from the hospital where he had undergone a slight operation. A curve hindered them from seeing the engine.
