Mrs. J.C. Perkinson of Charlotte Shot in Highway Dispute at Railway Crossing, Oct. 11, 1919

Gate Keeper at Norfolk Shoots Into Passengers on a Car and Kills Woman After Argument. . . He Is Held for Murder

Norfolk, Va., Oct. 11—Mrs. J.C. Perkinson of Charlotte, N.C., was shot and killed at a railroad crossing early this morning by Branch A. Ford, the gatekeeper of the crossing. He fired three shots at a passing automobile after the occupants had taken him to task for blocking the street.

A public chauffeur and two other passengers were in the car with her when she was killed. According to the passengers the shooting followed an argument on account of the gatekeeper holding the car up longer than the occupants of the car thought necessary. Branch is under arrest charged with murdering the woman.
