When the officers appeared on the scene, they found two automobiles, one in front probably being the decoy and in the rear containing the booze. They stopped the first car, but found no liquor. The second car backed up and attempted to turn round, but the officers were on it so quickly that the men in it could not get it out of the way. The occupants then abandoned the car with its motor running and made off into the bushes.
The Buick car was from Charlotte.
Officers Sigmon and Gilberty found contnainers enough to hold 60 gallons of booze, but breakage and leakage had reduced the quantity to about 50 gallons.
