Statesville, N.C., Feb. 5—William Y. Westmoreland, found guilty by a jury late yesterday of the murder of James Nanz, a public chauffeur, near here on October 20, today was sentenced to die in the electric chair at the state prison on April 6. The defense gave notice of appeal.
Westmoreland was charged with shooting Nance to death after the latter had carried him home in his automobile. The body was hidden in an abandoned well. An old grudge is alleged to have been the motive.
