Lumberton, Jan. 10—The body of Jim Hayes, 55 year-old white man, was cut in two about midway by a local freight train in Rowland, Robeson county, late Saturday afternoon. Hayes was drinking and attempted to crawl under a car while the train was standing at the station, it is said. The train started before he made the trip and the wheels cut his body in two, death resulting instantly.
His widow and several children survive. Hayes was pulled from under the car twice by an Indian before he made the third and fatal attempt to crawl under the car.
