Mr. Alton Lewter left last Tuesday for Southern Business College, Norfolk, where he will attend school.

Mr. Pendleton Downey returned Monday to Buies Creek Academy after having spent the Christmas holidays with his parents.
Miss Bessie Allen, who attends school here, was called to her home near Seaboard to the bedside of her ill brother last Friday.
Miss Claire Watson returned to G.C.W., Greensboro, Tuesday.
Miss Madge Porter left Wednesday for E.C.T.C., Greenville.
Messrs. Emmett White and Mahlon DeLoatch returned to Wake Forest College Tuesday.
Miss Sallie Hoggard left Wednesday for Middlesex, N.C., where she is teaching.
Mrs. Verona Hoggard returned Tuesday to begin her work as teacher in Littleton school.
Messrs. Percy Tyler, Leon Joyner and Bill Spencer motored to Murfreesboro Sunday afternoon.
Miss Elma Lewter, who teaches at Cedar Rock school near Louisburg, returned Tuesday.
Miss Elsie Lewter of the faculty of Margarettsville school returned Monday.
The Venetian Trio will be here Friday night, Jan. 12. We hope to have a big crowd on that night. Admission, adults 35 cents, children 20 cents.

Margarettsville Locals
The Margarettsville Graded School reopened on January 2nd. Many were absent on account of Flu.
The Literary Society of Margarettsville school will give a program Friday evening, January 12th, at 3:45. The public is cordially invited.
Rev. J.W. Downey filled his regular appointment here Sunday.
The Sunday School of Margarettsville Baptist church was reorganized Sunday morning, January 7, 1923.
The Margarettsville Sunday School and church agreed upon a collection of old clothing to send to the needy Russians.
Everyone is invited to attend prayer meeting services Sunday night, Jan. 14th, at 7 o’clock. The Scripture reading is 1st Cor. 5th chapter. The meeting is to be conducted by Mr. M.B. Garriss.
We are glad to report that Mrs. H.P.M. Garriss, who has been ill for quite a while, is still improving.
Quite a number of people in the community have had Flu, and it is still bad.
Mr. P.H. Bottoms, who was kicked by a horse, resulting in breaking his chest bone, is critically ill.
Mr. Joe Bottoms and family are very sick. After having the flu, they have gone into pneumonia. A trained nurse has been with them for some time.
For the past week people have been moving. Those moving into town are Mr. H.J. Vaughan and family.
Mr. W.F. Britton and family moved last week from Mrs. L.E. Spivey’s place over in Seaboard vicinity. Mrs. Rosa Norvell moved into Mrs. L.E. Spivey’s place.
Mr. J.E. Piland was in Norfolk this week on business.

Mrs. T.R. Futrell spent last Tuesday in Branchville, Va.
Mr. W.A. Davis was in Norfolk, Va., Tuesday on business.
Misses Jessie Thompson, Annie Garris and Mr. Lee Bridgers left Tuesday for Trinity College, where they will continue their studies.
Miss Jeanette Powell spent the Christmas holidays with her father, Mr. Elmo Powell of Enfield.
Mr. J.M. Vick spent several days last week in Tennessee buying horses.
Mr. J.B. Thompson spent a short while in Weldon last Tuesday.
Mr. Bennie Hedspeth left Thursday A.M. for Danville, Va., where he has accepted a position.
The Ga’s and Ra’s will meet with Miss Clara Davis Saturday evening at 7 o’clock.
Miss Mildred Tupton of Bellhaven, N.C., has been spending some time with her sister, Mrs. J.B. Thompson.
Miss Nellie Burgess returned to Norlina last Tuesday after spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Burgess.
The Lyceum gave its last number here last Tuesday evening, which was enjoyed by all.
Our town was shocked Saturday morning when the news came that Mrs. Make Britt had passed away.
