F.R. Satterwhite, a well known and highly respected man, died at his home, 412 Ashton Place, Saturday morning at 3 o’clock. Death was caused by a complication of diseases attendant upon old age.
The deceased was 765 years of age. For some time past he had been in feeble health and recently his condition took a turn for the worse. He was a resident of Durham for many years and during that time he alighted himself with the movement promoted tending to the betterment of the community. He was a member of the First Baptist church.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Laura Satterwhite, two daughters, Miss Cora and Jennie Satterwhite, and one son, A.V. Satterwhite. He is also survived by other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Interment will be in Maplewood cemetery. Rev. George T. Watkins, pastor of Grace Baptist church, will conduct the services, assisted by Dr. J.W. Lynch, supply pastor of the First church, and Rev. E.A. Stanistreet. Pall bearers will be Dr. Carl P. Norris, R.A. Knight, W.J. Brogden, W.P. Redmond, L.G. Cole, R.L. Lindsey, James W. Beavers, and C.L. Haywood. Floral bearers are as follows: John H. Woods, M.B. Fowler, W.A. Barbee, Frank Bennett, Dennis Gallagher, L.H. Barbour and Dave T. Dickey.
