Of 368 Arrests in February, 95% Were Convicted, March 9, 1924

Month Sentences Exceed 19 Years. . . Chief of Police W.F. Doby Makes Monthly Report—368 Arrests Made

An aggregate sentence of 19 years and one month was handed out in recorder’s court during February, according to the monthly report of Chief of Police W.E. Doby. During this month, the report points out, there were a total of 368 arrests, of which 168 were white men, 159 were colored men, 12 white women, and 24 colored women. Over 95 percent of the defendants arraigned in court were convicted of offenses charged.

Drunkenness led all violations, numbering 55, with gambling following with a total of 52. Fifteen persons were arrested for vagrancy.

Police recovered two of the four automobiles reported stolen during the month.
