Asheville, N.C., March 15—Rev. Francis M. Jordan, aged 94 years, pioneer Baptist minister, who has preached in every county in North Carolina and baptized more than 7,000 people in the rivers and creeks of the state, died at his home at Calvert, Transylvania County, at 3 o’clock this morning. Burial will be in Asheville Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Jordan was the father of 13 children, 10 of whom are living, and had 33 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was a native of Montgomery County, this state, and was twice married. In 1871 Mr. Jordan organized the First Baptist church in Winston-Salem, with five members, now grown into one of the largest congregations in the state.
